Vki is one the best restaurants in the villages. Fresh food and great atmosphere. The owner talked to me himself and we had a great time. He gave us free fruit and pretty Chinese girl waited on us. Japanese Steakhouse is located next to The Village's movie theater in lake sumter landing. This gives this place a great location. Lake Sumter Landing packed on this night. Live music across the street and great atmosphere in the villages helped. We take all our clients here because we know it is a great time and fresh food. The owner and pretty waitress talked Chinese to some of our important guest from China. Fast great service bravo. We here they are adding granite and fixing up place to make sure it keeps looking pretty. Also adding one in Brownwood owner told us. 5 stars

I would return as I liked one of the rolls I ordered. But they were big and hard to eat with chopsticks and so I used my hands. I got the hot roll and the happy cat roll I think. Whichever one had cream cheese I really liked it, the other one was gross. Their miso soup was great. Super soft tofu. Yum! Also their spicy mayo was yummy too. Great service, ok green tea, worst mochi ice cream I've ever had! I'd prefer to try other places before returning to this place again...

Kevin was our chef and was wonderfully entertaining. He really made my son feel special throughout. Our food was perfect and fresh. Everything was very clean.

My husband and I actually really love the food here. We were incredibly thrown off today when the seven of us were treated unfairly. We were there with family and friends from all over the country enjoying our meal that ended up being over $400 just for lunch when the waitress came over and told us to be quiet because there was a local business giving a presentation to the local Village residents trying to get them to buy in to their attorney services. Now, this presentation was not in a separate room, it was two hibachi tables away from us trying to have a good time. We more than paid for our meal and were finishing up our drinks when we were unfairly asked to be quiet in this very public part of the restaurant. We spared no expense at lunch and are so put off by the experience that we will not be back.

Sushi is always good, but the service is not always that great. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar.

Best sushi I've ever had. Favorites are shrimp tempura roll, dragon balls, hot roll, NY roll. The list goes on and on. Excellent hibachi also. The lunch hibachi is a great deal!

We ate at the sushi bar. The waitress was over the top unprofessional, complaining when she had to wipe down our counter for us to sit down, that a couple only tipped her $3 and left a mess so big they were babies (the couple were elderly and may have had dexterity issues), and curtly demanded to know what we wanted. She did not check on us again until we were ready for our check which she slammed on the table. Perhaps she was having a bad night but I will never return to this restaurant mainly because of how in enjoyable she made the meal but also because of the food. The sushi is not terrific. The clear soup was weak and the wakame salad too limp. The quality of fish is questionable. We tried yellowtail, octopus, and salmon. The octopus had no flavor, the yellowtail (the freshest tasting of the bunch) was nonetheless crudely cut, and the salmon was not even sushi quality.

Just never lives up to a true Japanese restaurant. Service is good (sometimes) and food is mediocre. Had the combo, chicken and shrimp teriyaki - pretty bad. Pre cooked chicken and shrimp with some weak tasting teriyaki sauce poured over and not much sauce. Just can't recommend this place to anyone. My wife is a vegetarian and had very few choices and all were poor. Try Bamboo Bistro instead (I know it is Asian fusion and not Japanese BUT it is much better).

My parents and I have been going to another Japanese steakhouse for years to celebrate my birthday. Since I am living in Orlando, and they are living in Inverness, we decided to try and meet in the middle, since we have all been busy lately. From the outside, it looks like it is is going to be a tiny place, but I think the place is well organized, and has many tables, both regular and hibachi. Since we appreciate the show, we decided to go with the hibachi. The show is not as interactive as Kobe. The sauces are not as good as Kobe. VKI DOES however offer a small shrimp appetizer included in the meal. I gave mine to my parents as I do not like seafood. They enjoyed it. The steak was AMAZING. Chicken was ok. Fried rice was also AMAZING. I will not be going to KOBE anymore for Japanese food! On the downside, Kobe does offer a free entree for birthdays/anniversaries. And is a little cheaper. There are pros and cons. The food is much better at VKI.

On the outside and inside, this place seems quite promising, but after ordering quite an assortment... meh, i've experienced better. came here with the family while im living the retired life, and this placed was just.. well. ok. it wasn't dreadfully terrible, but just blah.. we ordered an array of different items. udon soup. chicken teriyaki, ramen soup. couple rolls. both of the soups were quite bland, and lacking salt. i guess in general anything in sumter landing is basically bland. the fish in the soups were quite fishy and well.. blah. the sushi rolls were nothing special, but prepared well and held up the sashimi did seem fresh and hearty. the raw items we ordered all were decent, but anything cooked was pretty much mediocre at best. i guess for the location, it's alright, and maybe we'll be back for teppanaki and i can give a more updated review.. this does worry me, because it's the only sushi joint in the villages that i've come across :(

I really want to like this place since it's the only sushi place in the Villages. It was decent but nothing really stood out as super awesome. The Age Dashi Tofu appetizer was a great start and well executed (wonderfully crunchy outside, soft tofu inside). The Bento Box dinner combo runs you $19.95 and is a pretty good deal considering you get shumai, dumplings, 2 "main dish" choices (beef, chicken or shrimp teriyaki or tempura, etc). The beef teriyaki tasted like someone just poured teriyaki sauce out of the bottle onto sliced beef. It was also on the salty side sitting on a bed of udon noodles. It needed a little more of something (garlic, perhaps?). The rolls we ordered were just OK. I can't really remember what we ordered since there were so many rolls, and nothing terribly exciting. Overall, this place was alright. It'll hit the spot if you're desperately seeking sushi in the Villages.
